Girolamo's 33 Power Green Wave to a One-Point Survival at East Shoreline

A 33-point eruption, a buzzer-tight finish, and a pair of Huskies double-doubles headlined a loaded Wednesday night on the hardwood — proof that midsummer basketball at East Shoreline Catholic Academy is heating up right along with the weather.

Around the League

Huskies 49, Black Mamba 36. The Huskies leaned on their frontcourt tandem to grind out a 13-point win, and both halves of that duo posted double-doubles. Ryan Florentine did a little of everything — 23 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, two steals, two blocks and four made threes — while Neil Anglemire turned the glass into his personal property, hauling in a monstrous 21 rebounds to go with 13 points and four assists. Black Mamba got a team-high 11 from Colby Morawski (six boards) and balanced contributions from Samim Jabarkhail (8 points, 5 rebounds) and Paul Votto (8 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists), but couldn’t solve the Huskies’ size inside.

Green Wave 52, Red Storm 51. The game of the week, no contest. Jimmy Girolamo put the Green Wave on his back with a spectacular 33-point, seven-rebound, four-steal night, drilling three from deep and single-handedly matching Red Storm’s best punches. And Red Storm punched hard: David Orr answered with 24 points and a scorching five made threes, adding seven rebounds, two steals and two blocks. Danny Gardner flirted with a double-double (10 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists) and Doug Brackney and James Holt each chipped in stat-sheet-stuffing lines. In the end, Tyler Copple’s 11-point, four-assist effort and Patrick Boutilier’s five dimes were just enough to nudge the Wave across the line by a single point.

Knicks 60, Bulldogs 53. Khalid Jabarkhail was must-watch television, pouring in 30 points on four made threes with five boards and two steals — but the Knicks had one more gear. Even a supporting cast that included Mason Carey’s 11-point, eight-rebound double-double effort and Joe Flaherty’s pair of triples couldn’t get the Bulldogs over the top, as the Knicks rolled to a 60-53 win and their third straight victory.

The Standings

Log-jam alert at the top: three teams sit at 3-1. Red Storm cling to first on the strength of a plus-22 point differential, though that heartbreaking one-point loss to Green Wave snapped their momentum and dropped them to an L1 skid. Right on their heels, Green Wave (W3) and the Knicks (W3) are surging, both riding three-game win streaks and daring the leaders to look over their shoulders. The Huskies got well at 2-2 with a comfortable win, while the Bulldogs (1-3, L3) and winless Black Mamba (0-4, L4) are still searching for traction. No one changed rank this week, but the pecking order feels one Wednesday away from a shakeup.

Movers & Shakers

Scoring champ: Take a bow, Jimmy Girolamo (Green Wave), whose 33-point, four-steal masterpiece was the week’s high-water mark — and the difference in a one-point win. Khalid Jabarkhail (Bulldogs) wasn’t far behind with 30, and David Orr (Red Storm) lit it up for 24 on a league-best five made threes.

Glass cleaner: Neil Anglemire (Huskies) grabbed a jaw-dropping 21 rebounds, comfortably the top mark of the week.

Category kings: Patrick Boutilier (Green Wave) dished a week-high five assists, Girolamo’s four steals paced the league in takeaways, and Ryan Florentine (Huskies) topped the block column with two.

Double-double club: Both belong to the Huskies. Florentine went for 23 & 12, and Anglemire posted 13 & 21 — a two-man wrecking crew that turned Wednesday into a clinic on interior dominance.
