Red Storm Own the Glass, Green Wave Make It Three, and Anglemire Nearly Does It All

Wednesday at East Shoreline Catholic Academy gave us the week’s only blowout, a 16-rebound night from a big man who refused to be moved, and a Huskies forward who finished three assists short of a triple-double.

Around the League

Red Storm 78, Black Mamba 62. This was the week’s loudest scoreboard, and Red Storm earned every point of it on the boards. David Orr was immovable: 23 points and 17 rebounds with 3 assists and 2 steals, both of them week-high marks in scoring and rebounding. Branden LaPia ran the show alongside him with 21 points, 9 rebounds and a week-best 7 assists, knocking down 4 threes in the process. Colin Ryan quietly added a 15-point, 14-rebound double-double, and James Holt came off with 11 on 3 triples. Black Mamba did not go quietly — Paul Votto posted 22 points and 11 rebounds, Samim Jabarkhail answered with 19 and 13 plus 4 steals and 4 threes, and Mike Iannuzzi was the week’s most prolific shooter from deep, hitting 5 threes on his way to 17. Three double-digit scorers, and it still wasn’t enough against a Red Storm team that simply owned the second chances. Josh Levinson grabbed 7 boards in the effort.

Huskies 55, Bulldogs 45. The line of the night belonged to Neil Anglemire, who put up 15 points, 16 rebounds and 7 assists with 3 steals — three assists away from a triple-double and the most complete stat sheet anyone filled out all week. Ryan Florentine led the Huskies in scoring with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals, and Scott Houghton added 11. The Bulldogs spread it around — Joe Flaherty paced them with 12, Mason Carey went for 10 and 7, Anthoni Reyes chipped in 9 points and 5 assists on a pair of threes, and Blake Walker filled in 6 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists — but they’ve now dropped eight straight, and no team in the league is working harder for less return.

Green Wave 54, Knicks 44. The league leaders made it three in a row, and they did it the way they usually do: with Jeremy McDonald everywhere at once. He finished with 21 points, 14 rebounds, 5 steals and 2 blocks, leading the week in both steals and blocks. Jimmy Giorlamo was the perfect complement — 19 points on 4 threes, with 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and a block. Shawn Love added 8. The Knicks got a strong all-around game from Brian Jackson (14 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists) and a tidy 10-and-10 from Scott Edmond, with 9 from Jeremy Staub and 7 from Alex Hetherington — but they couldn’t close the ten-point gap, and the loss cost them a spot in the table.

The Standings

The Green Wave stay on top and keep pulling away, now 7-2 with a W3 streak and a league-best +68 differential. The Huskies sit second at 6-3 after taking care of business. The week’s mover is Red Storm, whose 16-point win lifted them a spot into third at 5-4 — they and the Knicks share identical records, but Red Storm’s +10 differential edges out the Knicks’ -9, and that’s the whole story of the swap. Black Mamba slipped to 3-6, and the Bulldogs remain 1-8 on an L8 skid, still searching for their second win.
